A south west group, the Oduduwa United Frontiers has urged all Nigerians to desist from condemning the appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari. The group said the “attacks” on northerners based on appointments made by Buhari is worrisome. Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the national president of the group Kolawole Abe said the campaign against officials appointed by Buhari is unacceptable, especially coming from individuals of south west extraction.
Abe said if this attacks are allowed to continue, it will be difficult for an region of the country to trust people from the south west in the future. He said: “We were however forced to confront the reality that the Yoruba are one of the many ethnic configurations in the country just as the south west is one of six geo-political zones in the nation.” “It was therefore impossible that we will have all the position available for occupation simply because we were pivotal to the government’s emergence. The other geo-political zones, even the ones that opposed the government are equally deserving of having political appointees in the spirit of federal character, which is of course tempered by competence,” Abe said.
He also decried attempts by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rubbish the efforts of President Buhari in the fight against corruption.
“As the northern public officers being so accused continually shake of such trumped up allegations, it is President Buhari’s administration that is increasingly looking bad from attacks launched against his aides from within his own political party. “From what we understand, these our south west leaders want to criminalized and demonize northern public office holders to the point where Mr President is forced to drop them and pave the way for them to send in their own loyalists,” he said.
The group said the south west region appreciates the president. It also urged the youth who voted Buhari into power to support his policies and consider the attack by a few mischief makers an effort to satisfy their pay masters. “This will explain the reason for the intensity of the way these northerners are being maligned simply for serving the nation. “They have run a consistent rota and the latest on the chopping block is the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau who they are desperately attempting to tarnish with the now worn out allegation of corruption.
Before then it as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai,” Abe said. Abe further urged the mischief makers to desist from this their “evil trade” stating that where they wish to continue attacking or demonizing the north they must be bold enough to openly place disclaimers. He said the disclaimers must clearly state that they commit their “evil” without the endorsement of the Yoruba race and the consequent benefits is for their own selfish gain and not for the south west.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been condemned overtime for his “lopsided” appointments. Many Nigerians have clearly stated that the president is only interested in a particular region of the country – the north – especially for very key appointments. Nigerians have also decried the neglect of the federal character by President Buhari since assuming office on May 29, 2015.
