"Involve Us In Ogoni Cleanup"

Oil-producing communities, on the aegis of Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas HOSTCOM, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to involve the group in the cleanup of Ogoni land and also release the gas flare penalty money to them.

leaders of the Niger Delta region and the Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, National Chairman of HOSTCOM, Dr. Mike Emuh, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the release of the gas flare penalty money. 

According to him, payment of the fund to HOSTCOM would enable it commence sustainable developmental projects ranging from human capital development, agriculture, infrastructural development, education, health and industrialization, among others. 

Other demands the group made in its presentation to the Minister, Emuh said, include, “Payment of 13 per cent derivation fund as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution directly to HOSTCOM which is the legitimate representative organization of the communities hosting oil and gas facilities in Nigeria. “Involvement of HOSTCOM in the Hydro-Carbon Pollution Restoration Project,  HYPREP,  clean-up of Ogoniland and other Communities in oil and gas producing states in Nigeria. 

“Issuance of pipeline surveillance/maintenance of right of way (ROW) contract to  HOSTCOM, to create the much needed jobs in the host communities producing and hosting oil  and  gas facilities in Nigeria.

 “Collaboration with HOSTCOM investors and foreign partners for the establishment of Modular Refineries for effective utilization of the gas being flared daily in the Niger Delta region to produce cheap electricity, fertilizer and domestic gas production among others.”
