ADIN Seeks Training For Drivers


The Association of Driving Instructors of Nigeria (ADIN) has expressed worries over the growing rate of accidents in Nigerian roads, attributing the menace to lack of proper training of drivers.



The association, therefore, called on government to make it mandatory for all Nigerian drivers to undergo formal training in registered driving schools before they are allowed to drive on the nation’s highways.



The association’s president, Mr. Jide Owatunmise, gave the advice yesterday in his welcome address at the first International Driving Instructors Conference holding in Abuja.

The association’s president, Mr. Jide Owatunmise, gave the advice yesterday in his welcome address at the first International Driving Instructors Conference holding in Abuja.



Delivering a paper tittled, “Road Safety Education, A Panacea to Road Crashes in Nigeria”, Prince Julius Ache Ogu said it is unfortunate that a lot of families have lost their earnings due o road accidents of their loved ones.



He called for a holistic approach that would involve all and sundry to tackle the increasing rate of accidents that could have been possibly averted.

He recommended that government at all levels must work hard to improve social infrastructural developments such as rail and road transportation, provision of good health centres along major highways, massive enlightements campaigns just to mention a few.



The three-day conference, which has as its theme, “Fast Tracking Safety on West-Africa Roads through Quality Driving Education’’drew participants from all stakeholders in the transport sector is expected to come up with a communiqué.
