Farmers Gruesomely Killed By Suspected Fulani Herdsmen In Delta State

Five farmers have been gruesomely killed in separate attacks on two communities in Delta state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.


Southern City News reports that the attacks which occurred in Abraka and Obiaruku in Ethiope East and................
Ukwuani local government area of the state respectively were believed to have been carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
 
The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 4, 2017, when the communities were reportedly attacked by herdsmen that had a running battle with farmers over destruction of their crops.
 
Four male and a female farmer lost their lives in the two-day attack even as residents in the state have called for the ejection of the herdsmen from their lands.


Among those killed were cousins Akpovona Felix and Sunday Akpupu, who were indigenes of Eku community in Abraka.
 
The two’s lifeless bodies were recovered from their farms the next day after they failed to return home from the farms on Tuesday.
 
While Felix was shot, Sunday was hacked to death and his fingers cut off. The two had reportedly refused to allow herdsmen graze their cattle on their farms.
The other three victims, two men and a woman, were killed in a second incident that happened in a farm around a forest reserve along the Abraka-Benin road on the boundary area between Urhoka-Abraka and Obiaruku.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has assured Nigerians that Fulani herdsmen attacks would soon be a thing of the past.
 
The spokesperson for the Defence headquarters, Brigadier-General Rabe Abubakar disclosed on Friday, January 6 that the Army has concluded plans to launch “Operation Accord” to check illegalities of the herdsmen.
