Akwa Ibom Announces Dates For LG Polls

Finally, the Akwa Ibom State Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) has fixed November 11, 2017 for the conduct of elections into the 31 local government councils in the state.

The chairman of the commission, Mrs. Gloria Ukpong, dropped the date for the conduct of the election Wednesday at a meeting attended by chairmen and secretaries of no fewer than 20 of the registered political parties in the state.
Mrs Ukpong described the meeting with the political parties ahead of the election as a crucial one, meant to set the tone for a successful local government elections in the state.
At the parley, the AKISIEC urged the chairmen and scribes of political parties to commence their internal party primaries, warning that such exercise must follow due process and transparence in choosing the candidates for the election.
The AKISIEC boss stressed that the warning for the political parties to take the election serious became imperative as they are strong political actors in a successful electoral process in the state.
