Some youths on Sunday, September 17, invaded a community in Rivers state to protest the killing of Heaven Ihuigwe, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbogoro Ward 15.
Many cars and valuables belonging to residents were destroyed at Rumuekini community, Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers state. The protest followed the discovery of the body of Ihuigwe in Ogbogoro Ward 15 after he had visited a friend within the community last week.
One of the residents who spoke on the matter said security operatives have already been alerted on the matter. The resident who pleaded anonymity said the youths invaded Rumuekini community, destroyed cars after Ihuigwe's body was found.
Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers state police command Nnamdi Omoni said the police is aware of the incident in the community. Omoni said: “We are aware of the incident at Rumuekini. When we got the signal we mobilised to the affected community and we have contained the situation.
"No life was lost during the incident. We do not know what caused the incident and the people responsible for the incident. We are still investigating. We will come up with the report of our findings soon."
