Public And Civil Servants To Wear Adire Uniform In Osun State

Public and civil servants in Osun State have been mandated to wear Adire (a distinctive local fabric) uniform to work every Thursday to promote Nigerian fashion and culture, People’s Gazette is reporting. Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun made the remarks during the state’s International Fashion Week in Osogbo. The spokesperson to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, said that the governor’s directive would take effect from August 27. The governor maintained the initiative was part of efforts to preserve and promote the production of Adire Osun as well as bolster the image of Osun as a culturally correct and indigenous product inclined state.

South Africa Erupts With Rioting Over Jailing Of Ex-President Zuma

Violent rioting has erupted in two South African provinces against the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma, with supporters blocking roads and looting shops. At least 62 people were arrested, South Africa police said Sunday. Zuma started serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court last week. Zuma has been imprisoned for defying a court order to testify before a state-backed inquiry probing allegations of corruption during his term as president from 2009 to 2018. His bid to be released from the Estcourt Correctional Center was rejected by a regional court on Friday. He is set to make another attempt Monday with the Constitutional Court, the country’s highest court. Josh Odour and Sakis from Busia County in western Kenya, traded wives and their kids after Sakis and Odour’s wife decided to make their secret affair public. According to KDRTV, Odour first heard that his wife was cheating with Sakis but he did not believe it. However, he was later shocked to find his wife at Sakis’ place cleaning the dishes. The Emir of Kajuru, Adamu Kajuru, and 12 persons described as “members of his family,” have been kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna State. This was disclosed by the former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, who wrote on  Twitter  on Sunday. “The Emir of Kajuru, 30 minutes drive from Kaduna and twelve of his family members were forcefully kidnapped yesternight. The bandits operated freely for one hour in the town. In my Kaduna State nowadays, it’s no more about who is safe but who is the next victim,” Shehu tweeted. According to the  News Agency of Nigeria , quoting the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, suspected bandits in the early hours of Sunday kidnapped the Emir and 10 others in Kajuru town of Kajuru Local Government Area. MultiChoice shares Fall In South Africa After Nigeria Accused The Company Of Tax Evasion

   The company has denied not complying with Nigeria's tax laws. MultiChoice share price dipped by as much as 7.4% at the close of business in Johannesburg, its lowest since March 2020, hours after Nigeria's tax authority accused the company of tax evasion. The volume traded however exceeded three times the daily average for the past three months, Bloomberg reports. On Thursday, July 8, 2021, Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) announced that the South Africa owned PayTV company is owing as much as ₦1.8trillion and $342.5million in taxes. FIRS also ordered commercial banks to freeze the accounts of the company until it pays up. "When it comes to tax compliance, some companies are found wanting. They do with impunity in Nigeria what they dare not try in their countries of origin," fumed Muhammad Nami, Executive Chairman of FIRS. NYSC Should Be 2 Years So Corpers Can Undergo Compulsory Military Training — Gov. Ishaku

Darius Ishaku, governor of Taraba state, says the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme should be a two-year programme so that corps members can undergo military training. Speaking during a programme on Channels Television on Wednesday, the Taraba governor said at the end of the military training, ex-corps members would be able to carry guns to defend themselves.He noted that since the government cannot provide adequate security, citizens should be engaged to protect themselves. “If you leave me, the NYSC, I will say it should be two years — one year for compulsory military training and the other year for the social works that they are doing now,” he said. This is so that anybody who graduates as an NYSC person can know how to handle a gun, can know how to defend himself, just like it is done in other countries like in Israel, Lebanon and other places. You must engage your citizens to be proactive when you cannot provide the security. You must allow them to protect themselves.

Tokyo To Declare State Of Emergency During Olympics Due To Surge In Coronavirus Cases

  A fire incident broke out, at the headquarters of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), an hour after the candlelight procession for the late founder of the church, Prophet T.B Joshua, on Monday, July 5, 2021. The procession, which kicked off the funeral rites for the late TB Joshua, on Monday evening, was led by his widow, Evelyn Joshua. The fire outbreak, happened at the storehouse, within the SCOAN complex. The church confirmed the incident on Facebook and said it was caused by an electrical fault, but it was quickly put before officials from the Lagos State Fire Services arrived at the scene.

National Assembly Blocks Electronic Transmission Of Election Results

The national assembly leadership has blocked the proposed electronic transmission of election results in Nigeria.  The lawmakers are set to pass the electoral act amendment bill, but the amendment dashes the hopes of key reforms that would come with the proposed law, according to a copy of the final bill obtained by TheCable. The bill which seeks to repeal and re-enact the 2010 electoral act has been under consideration for years. In 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari refused to sign it into law after arguing that it would disrupt the conduct of the 2019 elections. Amid efforts to pass the bill early enough for the next round of general elections in 2023, the joint committees of the senate (INEC) and the house of representatives (electoral matters) set up a technical committee to work on the proposed amendment. Trial Justice Binta Nyako gave the remand based on an application that was brought the Federal Government. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami(SAN), announced this at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, June 29. He revealed that Kanu was arrested and brought back to Nigeria on Sunday, June 27. He said the arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol. Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.  The IPOB leader had fled the country after a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in 2017.

Breaking: Ex-President Jacob Zuma Has Been Sentenced To 15 Months In Prison

Jacob Zuma, former president of South Africa, was found guilty of contempt of court on Tuesday, following his refusal to appear before a graft panel. South Africa’s constitutional court gave the sentence after Zuma failed to appear at the inquiry led by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in February. Thereafter, the inquiry’s lawyers approached the constitutional court to seek an order for his imprisonment.   The inquiry is examining allegations of high-level graft during Zuma’s period in power from 2009 to 2018. Zuma denies wrongdoing and has so far not cooperated. “Mr Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is sentenced to undergo 15 months’ imprisonment,” a constitutional court judge said, reading out the court’s order. Zuma has to appear before police within five days, the judge added.   Hundreds of passengers were left stranded as the Abuja-Kaduna Train broke down in the middle of a forest on Monday. The incident happened few minutes after the train left Rigasa station in Kaduna state. It was the second hitch on the train in 12 hours.   A passenger claimed that the train had initially stopped twice before it finally broke down in Dutse, Kaduna state around 7am. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Fidelis Okhiria also confirmed the incident. Okhira said the train broke down as a result of engine failure but said a relief engine has taken over. “Engine failure, but a relief engine has taking over,” the MD stated via text message. A report by The African news website indicates that Mrs. Evelyn Joshua, the wife of the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Joshua, will replace her deceased husband as the General Overseer of the church.  The widely-read Punch newspaper in Nigeria also reported the news on Sunday, June 27.
